Blue Eagles are back to the top of the standings after thumping Red Lions 4-1 in a match played at Balaka Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Two goals from Gaddie Chirwa and a goal each from Schumacher Kuwali and Osward Maonga were enough to cast down the Reds to a third successive loss thanks to a five-star performance in the match.
Coach for Blue Eagles, Eliyah Kananji thanked his charges for the brilliant display in the game.
"We are happy about the win, I thank the boys for applying everything that we told them at the training and we are happy to collect more and more points. We will try to continue with our performance so that at least we may do better this season." Said Kananji.
Meanwhile, the Coach for Red Lions, Mike Kumanga conceded the defeat saying many areas need to be improved.
"A bad loss indeed, we were weak in many departments, goalkeeping, defense, and attacking so this let us down but we will fix the problems and we will come back strong," Kumanga said.
Eagles started on a high by keeping much of the possession but were kept well longer until the 39th minute when Maonga opened the scoring with a fine goal.
A Khumbo Banda's free-kick in the 47th minute was met by Royal Bokosi who leveled the scores with a powerful shot but Schumacher Kuwali sent a powerful drive two minutes later to restore the lead. Kuwali then set Gaddie Chirwa twice in the 63rd and 80th minutes to kill off the game as the Eagles cruised to their biggest win of the season.
Eagles have now 16 points from 6 games on position 1, three points clear of second-placed Nyasa Big Bullets. Red Lions will remain 9th with 7 points.
Meanwhile, the were goals galore at Chitowe Stadium as Mafco thumped TN Stars 5-1 to get their first win of the season. Walusungu Mpata scored twice with goals each from Zikani Sichinga, Peter Kasonga, and Tony Mbulu to claim the much-needed points whereas China Chirwa netted the consolation goal.
The win takes the Soldiers out of the relegation zone to 12th with 5 points whereas TN Stars remain 16th with a point.
