Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and NBS Bank in partnership with Red Cross Society, Nyasa Big Bullets, and Silver Strikers have today donated food items worth K10.3 million bought with proceeds from the NBS Charity Shield to flood victims in the Lower Shire.
The food items donated include Maize flour, Soya pieces, and Ready-mix Likuni Phala with sugar.
Speaking after presenting the items FAM President Walter Nyamilandu said they thought of fulfilling the promise as one way of ensuring that the football fraternity pays back to the community through such charitable causes of national importance.
In her remarks, Temwani Simwaka, NBS Bank Deputy Chief Executive (CEO) said they are excited looking at the fact that they've managed to support families who were displaced by floods.
President of Malawi Red Cross Society, Innocent Majiya praised FAM and NBS for such a valuable donation to the people of Chikwawa District.
986 households that were affected by the floods are expected to benefit from the relief items that are currently being distributed by Red Cross.
