Kasungu Teachers Training College will have a Women's Football team for the first time after the sport has been introduced by IPTE 16 students at the college this term.

The Director of Sports at the school, Yona Chizumira confirmed the development to Starsport HD, saying he saw potential in the girls that they can participate in the sport. He said he want to let the girls that they are not only for Netball but they can play football as well.

Chizumira further said that the introduction of the sport can help to expose the talents of girls to big teams and even to the national team.

"From the first training, I saw that there are skills among some of the ladies so if the effort is applied to them, they can go far with the sport. in addition, if there can be a selection of players in schools they may be considered." He Said.

Chizumira believes the team can reach in top heights to take part in other in Kasungu and will ask organizers to be considering them in tournaments.

"We can get encouraged if we are included in some of the competitions if possible to encourage these women that they can also play Football." Added Chizumira.

The team had its pieces of training at Kasungu TTC ground on Monday with 13 girls taking part. One of the players available, Thoko Gidala said she is happy to be part of the team and has edged more girls to join the team.

"I could see some girls playing football as part of sports so I have also that effort and will make it and Yes am happy because we were just  playing netball, we had no chance to play Football but it's our time to wake up and show people that Kasungu TTC has girls who play Football." Said Gidala.

The team will have a strength testing match on Saturday with male students who do not play in the main team before playing games with fellow women. The team targets to have at least 25 girls on the team.
